The award, established by Edicions 62 and the Royal Academy of Good Letters, was created with the aim of promoting the creation and dissemination of this genre, as well as encouraging reading in Catalan.

It is a prize for humanistic essays on free themes, open to any field of thought. It seeks to stimulate and recognize excellence in humanistic studies and their values in an era dominated by excessive commercialism, with the conviction that, in today's society, essays are more necessary than ever. Furthermore, it aims to provide society with tools for information and reflection to help address fundamental issues of concern in the modern world.
