Grupo Planeta is the largest publishing group in the Spanish-speaking market, with over 70 publishing imprints in Spain and Latin America. Editorial Planeta, the seed of what is now Grupo Planeta, was founded in 1949 with the aim of bringing writers' talent closer to readers. The Group grew steadily until the 1960s, when it began its expansion into Colombia and Mexico, and since then, it has become a key publishing reference across Latin America.

Later, Grupo Planeta expanded further by acquiring some of the most iconic publishing houses in the Spanish literary landscape, such as Espasa Calpe, Seix Barral, Destino, Tusquets, and Gestión 200, among others. It also made a significant commitment to the Catalan language by incorporating Grup 62 and later the Valencian publishing house Bromera. All the publishing houses that have joined the group maintain their unique catalogues while benefiting from synergies and innovation capabilities to continue growing. Grupo Planeta has also created new publishing imprints to meet readers' evolving needs.

Grupo Planeta has successfully adapted to changing reading habits and now offers books not only in print format but also in digital format, providing a strong boost to its publishing imprints.

It publishes fiction, non-fiction, children's and young adult literature, comics, and manga in Spanish, Catalan, and Portuguese, both in print and digital formats. Every year in Barcelona, it awards the Premio Planeta de Novela, the most widely recognized literary prize among readers.

Grupo Planeta is present throughout the entire book distribution chain. It owns the largest bookstore chain in Spain, Casa del Libro, with 64 stores across the country’s main cities and a catalog of over one million titles. Casadellibro.com has become the leading online bookstore for book sales. The Group is also a key shareholder in Logista Libros, Spain’s largest book distributor.
