Leading publishing group in the Spanish-speaking market.

Grupo Planeta is the largest publishing group in the Spanish-speaking market, with more than 70 publishing imprints in Spain and Latin America. Editorial Planeta, the seed of what is now Grupo Planeta, was founded in 1949 with the aim of bringing writers' talent closer to readers. The Group continued to grow, and in the 1960s, it began its expansion into Colombia and Mexico. Since then, it has become one of the leading publishing houses across all Latin American countries.

Later, Grupo Planeta expanded further by acquiring some of the most emblematic publishing houses in the Spanish literary scene, such as Espasa Calpe, Seix Barral, Destino, Tusquets, and Gestión 200, among others. It also made a strong commitment to the Catalan language by incorporating Grup 62 and later the Valencian publisher Bromera. All the publishing houses that have joined the group maintain the personality of their catalogues while benefiting from synergies and innovation capacity to continue growing. Grupo Planeta has also created new publishing imprints to adapt to readers' needs.

Grupo Planeta has successfully adapted to changing reading habits, offering books not only in print format but also in digital format, which has significantly boosted the overall performance of its publishing imprints.

It publishes fiction, non-fiction, children's and young adult literature, comics, and manga in Spanish, Catalan, and Portuguese, in both print and digital formats. Every year in Barcelona, it awards the Planeta Novel Prize, the literary award with the highest recognition among readers.

Grupo Planeta is present throughout the entire book distribution chain. It owns Spain’s largest bookstore chain, Casa del Libro, with 64 stores across Spain’s main cities and a catalog of over one million references. Casadellibro.com has become the leading online bookstore for book sales. It is also a key shareholder in Logista Libros, Spain’s largest book distributor.
