Casa del Libro, the bookstore chain of Grupo Planeta, was founded in 1923 and acquired by the Group in 1992. From the four bookstores it had in 1999, when it began its expansion plan, new stores have been added in various cities. Casa del Libro now has 47 bookstores across the Iberian Peninsula. The bookstores are located in Madrid, Barcelona, Oviedo, Gijón, Zaragoza, Ponferrada, Valencia, Gandía, Córdoba, Alicante, Bilbao, Vitoria, Vigo, Cartagena, Castellón, Málaga, Sevilla, Valladolid, Logroño, Santiago de Compostela, and Albacete. The expansion follows two location models: stores of more than 600 square meters in city centers and smaller bookstores in shopping malls.

The chain is a benchmark in the sector, and this leadership has been confirmed by the increase in the number of customer visits, who come to Casa del Libro not only for new releases but, above all, for books on a wide range of subjects.

Casa del Libro offers a wide range of services, including personalized orders and sales to organizations and libraries. The breadth and depth of its database are reflected in the periodic publication of specialized catalogs by subject and its presence on the internet through casadellibro.com, providing information to all five continents.

Additionally, the events regularly organized in the bookstores, which attract many readers and the general public, reinforce Casa del Libro’s position as a cultural reference and a meeting place for authors, publishers, and readers.
