Editorial Proa
Editorial Proa was founded in 1928 by two students of Pompeu Fabra. The A Tot Vent collection, directed by Joan Puig i Ferreter and recognized by its pumpkin-colored covers, established a loyal readership network. From its inception, Proa included the great novelists of universal literature and championed the best Catalan-language authors.
In 1939, Proa was forced into exile in Perpignan, where it remained until 1964, when it was revived by patrons like Joan B. Cendrós, founder of Òmnium Cultural and creator of the Sant Jordi Prize. Under the direction of Joan Oliver, Proa continued to publish timeless great literature, focusing on fictional narratives within the A Tot Vent collection and poetry in Els llibres de l'Ossa Menor.
